Field Notes Template
MoveSize Lab does not invent move results, receipts, photos, or provider tests. Use this template to collect private move records from your own move and decide what, if anything, should update a guide or calculator.
Private recordkeeping worksheet
Create a private note or spreadsheet on your own device before, during, and after a move. This site does not provide downloadable templates. Keep private details out of public summaries; publish only what can be safely generalized.
- Box count log: estimated boxes, final boxes, unused boxes, and gap causes.
- Quote comparison log: written quote assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and follow-up questions.
- Supply receipt log: bought, borrowed, unused, and depleted supplies.
- Moving-day photo log: condition photos, meter readings, box stacks, damage, and handoff records.
- Address-change log: account updates, confirmations, missed mail, and follow-up checks.
What to record
- Move date, city or region, home size, stairs, elevator, parking, and access limits.
- Final small, medium, and large box counts, plus unused boxes.
- Supply receipts, borrowed gear, rental gear, and items that ran out.
- Quote screenshots or written estimates with the assumptions sent to each provider.
- Condition photos, meter readings, empty-room photos, and handoff records.
Privacy filter before publishing
Remove names, phone numbers, exact street addresses, account numbers, building access codes, faces, license plates, and private messages before any note becomes public.
If you maintain a private spreadsheet, add an evidence_file field for a relative reference to the source file that supports each row. Keep source files private; do not publish raw evidence, local paths, or source filenames in a public note.
How notes become updates
A note should update a public page only when it changes a range, warning, checklist item, or calculator assumption. Single records should be labeled as examples, not universal rules.
